This article discusses the externalization of culture in phraseological units. Phraseological units are relatively stable word-groups with their own meaning. They have various features such as polylexicality, reproductivity and idiomaticity respectively transfer of the meaning. One of the reasons why they are important for the language is that they express human experience and externalize the culture of the Slovak language. The nation´s culture is focused on work, but also on the (Catholic) religion. The most common sources of images in Slovak phraseology are work and religious elements. Work, as well as moral, intellectual and spiritual contents are also frequently expressed in phraseological units. This confirms the fact that culture is reflected in phraseology.
