A New High Performance Step-Down Quadratic Converter
A novel buck quadratic converter with one active switch and three diodes is presented in this paper. This new step-down topology features a static conversion ratio that makes it suitable in applications requiring an output voltage slightly lower than the input voltage. A dc analysis is performed, the static characteristics are derived and the design equations are provided in detail. The device stresses are evaluated and compared to other buck topologies revealing its superiority regarding several features. Compared to a classical buck, the static conversion ratio at the same duty cycle D is higher. It is shown that the proposed converter exhibits excellent efficiency over a wide range of the duty cycle. The theoretical analysis of the converter is accurately confirmed by simulation and experiments. The measurements proved the feasibility of the proposed step down quadratic converter.
