Accordingly, the education arena in Malaysia is also actively publishing quality scientific journals; as of 2020, there are over 500 journals that have been published in Malaysia and are listed in the MyJurnal database, with 107 journals themed writing in the field of Islamic studies. As such, this study aims to identify the themes and styles of reference writing that are set by the publishers of journals in the field of Islamic studies. Through a qualitative research methodology that is based on the content analysis approach, the results of the study had found that there are five main themes for the journals, namely, the field of Islamic studies in general, the field of Sharia, the field of al-Quran and hadith, the field of faith and thought, and the field of Islamic history. In addition, 94 journals (87.85%) have used the American Psychological Association (APA) reference style, while the remaining 13 journals (12.14%) have applied The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) style. Therefore, this disclosure can help the authors in the preparation and writing of article manuscripts.
