Delivering games in a remote online teaching environment
In economics, the playing of simple, short games has become an increasingly common way to teach a range of key concepts and theories. These games have traditionally taken place in face-to-face classes, however, in light of Covid-19, much teaching for the forthcoming academic year will be delivered remotely. We believe that in this teaching environment, the benefits of using games will only increase. Therefore, this chapter provides insights into how it is still possible to use games with remote online delivery. We distinguish between synchronous delivery where delivery is live and interactive and asynchronous delivery where students undertake learning activities flexibly at their chosen time. We also discuss how, regardless of the means of delivery, appropriate follow-up activities are important to maximise the potential learning advantages of using games. © Editors and Contributors Severally 2021.
