Electricity generation from sewage sludge: A highly prospective renewable energy for power problem solution in Bangladesh
In many countries power is being generated from various biogas or other renewable resources. One of the very common sources of biogas is sewage sludge which is generally a threat to the environment. In Bangladesh this threat could be turned to a blessing by using the treated outcomes of sewage sludge into generating electricity. In Dhaka city everyday a large amount of sewage sludge is being produced, which is approximately 1,841,980 kg/day. If this huge amount of sludge is being perfectly entreated, then we could get a huge amount of biogas and energy from it. In this paper the generated electricity in the aspect of Dhaka city from the sewage sludge has been calculated which could be approximately 58.12 MW per day basis. The average electricity demand of Dhaka city in 2013 was 520.18 MW/day. But the supply power was 483.48 MW/day on an average. From the sludge per monthly total generated power could reach as high as 1.74 GW approximately. So the generated power from the sewage sludge will not only be an upright contribution to the national grid, but also reduce our environmental threat as well.
