Performance monitoring is a key tool in network maintenance and in meeting customer expectations. Network operators are faced with many challenges when it comes to performance monitoring. This paper analyzes key challenges in HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coax) networks performance monitoring. Special attention is given to HFC network and its components that are used for performance monitoring. We propose list of metrics that need to be monitored in order to extract the quality information about a HFC network condition.
