This chapter discusses the use of DTS calibrators and how they may benefit in improving the accuracy of the DTS data over the long term. To the DTS world particularly, in the oil and gas industry such a need for accurate and calibrated temperature measurements are less onerous but they become very important in the electric utility market. The challenge for the classical calibration is its costs. This is particularly affecting the DTS systems placed at remote control room locations that require a day of travel. Quite often it is the manufacturers' recommendation to undertake the DTS calibration by applying the thermal environment at the remote cable ends. By placing a remote fiber end at controlled temperature and confirming that the DTS unit measures this temperature accurately improves the confidence in measurements all along the cable.
