A Voice-Controlled Mobile IoT Guider System for Visually Impaired Students
Visually impaired students face numerous issues during their campus life as a significant portion of schools and universities don’t currently accommodate systems and facilities for them to freely circulate on campus [1]. In this paper, we propose a guidance system that interacts with a voice controlled smartphone interface to address this issue. The proposed system aims to present the student with a way to navigate from one location to another, in addition to an emergency system that is triggered when the alarm system goes off in any building or manually by the user. We discuss in this paper the main components of the system which include the guider application’s navigation algorithm, the emergency process, the IoT features used, the data over sound functionality as well as the student’s interface and voice recognition process. We also describe the results of the user evaluation process that we performed.
