Motor Winding Temperature Estimation for Thermal Protection
Various temperature strategies are widely used for motor winding temperature sensing for fast response time, high sensitivity, easy system interfacing and low cost. However, there is always a tradeoff between the accuracy, efficiency, and affordability of the implemented method due to various physical parameters limitations like the type of material used, cost, computational methods, and mounting position of the sensors. To protect the system from thermal runaway conditions, it is extremely important to accurately sense the motor winding temperature and timely apply preventive actions. Hence, the paper proposes a computationally effective method for estimating the motor winding temperature by utilizing the direct and indirect temperature measurement strategies in the selected region of operation.
