The FDI employs simplex optimization procedure for on-line estimation of the system parameters affected by battle damage, thus providing the basis for the implementation of a variable-structure controller to augment surface commands due to surface impairments. In addition, the suggested FDI provides failure information to a positive pilot alert (PPA) system.
