: In the hitherto development of residential suburbanization in the Slovak Republic, the dominance of this process is evident primarily in the region of the Slovak capital – Bratislava. The objective of this contribution is to analyze the development of residential suburbanization in the Bratislava region in 1990 – 2009. We present the given development and new trends according to several relevant indicators – the number of inhabitants, indices of population growth, net migration, the crude rate of net migration, and the directions of migration with emphasis on the share of residents from Bratislava. A particularity of the studied region is cross-border suburbanization to the nearest areas of Hungary and Austria.
