Real- Time Dynamic Voltage Stability Assessment Through a Wide-Area Loss Index
Voltage instability associated with heavily-loaded power grids has been one of the concerns in the power industry. Quantitative indices which show the proximity of a system to voltage collapse can help system operators to avoid voltage instability. Application of these indices, however, will need to be examined under dynamically variable conditions in cases such as massive integration of the systems with intermittent renewable generations. This work is an extension of a prior research conducted by the authors in regards to a wide-area loss index (WALI) in a region of interest. The work expands prior research by considering the dynamic models of the system to calculate WALI in real-time. Results of the research show how migration from quasi-steady-state models to dynamic models can impact WALI in real-time.
