The protection system will make circuit equation integration, computations of forces on and stress in the coils and check current and voltage levels and coil heating effects in real time. If acceptable values for any of these parameters are exceeded, the pulse will be terminated. A fully digital implementation of the algorithms is being designed using a high performance Digital Signal Processor (DSP).
