Rollback mechanism is a key factor to improve the performance of optimistic parallel simulation. In this paper we first introduce the common time synchronization protocols and rollback recovery mechanisms in parallel simulation. Then we discuss the multifold state saving policies and compare their merits and drawbacks in the rollback recovery process. Finally we present an event based rollback recovery algorithm, where the parallel simulation engine is able to choose the rollback method according to the characteristics of the logic process and the events.
