Auxiliary PV power supply for commercial buses: A state-of-the-art review and research opportunities for Tunisia case study
Carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by combustion process in conventional thermal engines contributes directly to the global warming and climate changes due to enormous quantity of greenhouse gas (GHG) emitted. On the other side, the cost of generating propulsive energy is still very expensive for the world economy, especially with the instability of the barrel price. Today, investing in research related to the integration of renewable energy in end - use sectors is no longer a choice. Indeed, emissions regulations around the world have been geared towards finding sustainable energy resources for the transport sector. This paper presents a state-of-the-art about renewable energy exploitation, mainly photovoltaic (PV) systems, for urban transport sector. In fact, the paper discusses the efficiency of PV incorporation in commercial bus framework and its contribution to the power supply process. In addition, research opportunities are outlined for the case study of a diesel bus in Tunisia.
