Improving the fire safety system is one of the urgent tasks. The article analyzes the possibility of using thermal imagers as fire detectors. The technical characteristics of the systems are given, the main critical areas of operation and maintenance are identified. Comparative calculations were carried out on various parameters of modern fire alarm systems used on ships, and thermal imagers. Criteria for triggering fire safety systems after modernization are proposed. The boundaries of the operating and critical ranges of the system response parameters are determined.
