Being the most dynamic and unique one to control, invariably it must be optimized in an effective way. The increase in population will also require additional generation of energy which can’t be abated as it effects the growth of people in all ways. So currently, the need to use energy-efficient devices and techniques at the Demand Side is same as the need to generate electricity through the renewables. Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) is used for optimizing and scheduling load in the demand side along with renewable integration. This paper briefly reviewed HEMS by discussing its architecture, components, appliance classification and its objectives to manage the load demand at the residential level due to integration of different devices along with their uncertainty’s considerations. Furthermore, this manuscript also provides detailed summary of several prediction and scheduling techniques used in the recent studies which can be used further.
