Most residents in the Sultanate have Internet access and smartphones, allowing them to regularly check and update popular media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. For a country as small as Brunei, small and medium enterprises have limited budgets for marketing. That is why most of them have resorted to using social media to announce promotions and introduce products and advertising services. With the need to fulfill one of the obligations of Brunei's Wawasan 2035 regarding expanding the nation's business activity, many of the locals have been starting their businesses. The emerging trend of advertising one's business through social media is one of the main tools for the locals to effectively spread and advertise their businesses throughout the nation. Despite social media's effectiveness as a marketing tool, bloggers and marketing experts mentioned in the article that there are still many businesses that are not using it for marketing; they are either not using social media or doing it wrong.
