S-LINE: a newly developed TEM waveguide for EMC measurements
Transverse electromagnetic (TEM) waveguides are used in EMC measurements for immunity and emission tests. The paper describes a newly developed TEM waveguide, the S-LINE. Test cells known so far can be regarded as widened unsymmetrical coaxial lines with the EUT subjected to the electromagnetic field between the inner and outer conductor. By contrast the S-LINE essentially consists of symmetrical two-wire TEM lines that are arranged in an electrically shielded enclosure. By generating the field with a symmetrical line the cell offers a larger test volume than that of conventional cells. The S-LINE can be employed in the frequency range 150 kHz to 1 GHz and can used for precertification emission and immunity testing during the development of a product.
