Seismic Vulnerability Assessment Of Public Elementary And Secondary School Buildings In District II Of Valenzuela City
Philippines is one of the countries located in the Pacific Ring of Fire that is prone to experiencing earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. With this, buildings in Valenzuela City can get affected by such natural disasters more specifically essential structures such as school buildings. To identify specific locations of such structures that are vulnerable to earthquake within the city, Rapid Visual Screening was carried out. Seismic vulnerability and susceptibility of elementary and secondary school buildings of the second district of Valenzuela were mapped for high tendencies of failures that are in need of renovation, retrofitting or total reconstruction. Results showed that vast majority of the assessed school buildings got a final score higher than the cut off limit of 2.0. Public school buildings in Valenzuela have a low to medium range of vulnerability in terms of the impact of an earthquake.
