Technology for Extensive Listening Practice: EFL Teachers' Preferences and Views
This study purports to explore the preferences and views of EFL teachers on the use of apps and websites for accessing extensive listening materials and social media platforms for facilitating interaction outside the class. In total 21 EFL teachers from three countries responded to a Google-form questionnaire sent via Facebook and WhatsApp. Three Indonesian EFL teachers were also interviewed on a one-to-one basis. Despite their varied preferences, YouTube was mostly favored by EFL teachers as a resource for accessing EL materials. Meanwhile, WhatsApp and Instagram were seen to be the two most preferred social media platforms. Findings suggest that, in using recent technology for extensive listening practice, there are three pivotal aspects that deserve special attention: its availability, accessibility, and practicality. Teachers could cultivate the various uses of technology platforms to know whether and how far it can benefit students in their EL practice.
