In this paper we investigate ARQ strategies aimed at optimizing the transmission of progressive codestreams over wireless environments characterized by packet losses. The analysis is specifically tailored to the JPEG 2000 family of standards, and considers Part 1 and 3 for image and video compression, and Part 11 for additional error protection tools.
