Multilayer C-Sandwich Radome Design for Broad-Band and Multi-Band Airborne Application
In this paper, the design and development of a novel tangent-ogive shaped, multilayer C-sandwich radome for airborne applications is presented. Conventional monolithic radomes are narrow-band and cannot be used with broadband DOA sensors. Multilayer radome is designed to operate in both 1–18 GHz and also in W-band with active sensor. The design includes selection of materials and optimization of layer thickness to operate efficiently in the frequency region of interest. Initially flat plate multilayer analysis and optimization is performed and later this design is transformed into the tangent-ogive shaped radome. The simulation and analysis with both sensors is presented along with the fabricated radome hardware. This is a tangent-ogive shaped radome providing broadband and multi-band operations simultaneously for airborne application.
