Esplendor y miseria de Ediciones Oriente (Madrid 1927-1932). Un grupo editorial de avanzada para construir la República

Ediciones Oriente is one of the most important cultural republican initiatives emerging during the Primo de Rivera dictatorship. This publishing group made a very radical commitment to the unity of the working class and to the unity of all leftist tendencies, in order to erode the regime. A new model of conscious intellectual and a social and political vanguard, “the advance party literature”, were also promoted, , which will lead to the current known as “the new romanticism”. Unlike the worn-out traditional politics, and reactionary and elitist dehumanized literature, the initiative of Ediciones Oriente caught on among readers, strengthening a cultural and political alternative that undoubtedly was key in the late monarchy. Nevertheless, it was not able to last and quickly gave in under the dispersal of the same political forces that it had tried to unite.
