Dissemination of the Earth Charter by pedagogical method for teachers and metallurgical engineering students of PUC Minas: Earth Charter game
It's evident in everyday life, the Earth cry for its needs, but few are those who stop and give deserved importance to the case. Unfortunately, the world is going through extensive famine crisis, homelessness, inequalities and numerous precarious situations which much has to say, but little is done to change. Given the urgent need to ensure the survival of the world, was created the “Earth Charter”, drafted by 23 representatives from several countries that met to ensure a planet where everyone can live with dignity, having access to the resources needed to build a sustainable Earth, more egalitarian and better living. This paper aims to discuss and raise awareness, at first, with Metallurgical Engineering students during the seventh edition of the technological fair IPUC - Polytechnic Institute of PUC Minas, addressing the issues raised by the document, providing reflection and dialogue about the principles of the Earth Charter with the participants and other exhibitors at the event. For such purpose, we developed a game called “Earth Charter game” consisting of a wheel with 16 numbers - each representing a charter `principle' and their subjects, in order to facilitate dialogue about the countless challenges faced by future professionals not only of Metallurgical Engineering but all other areas. This project aims to place this discussion in other engineering courses at PUC Minas and also, in a didactic way, insert it into primary and secondary schools. From the constructive and thoughtful dialogue generated by the project, you can apply the principles discussed in the daily life of each person, in order to have a sustainable and careful development relative to the Earth, including its population and ecosystem in general.
