ADVERBIAL MODIFIERS OF PLACE AND THEIR COMMUNICATIVE STATUS IN LANGUAGES THAT ARE NOT CLOSELY- RELATED

The article examines the means of adverbial modifiers' of place actualization in English and Russian. The major means of their signaling, namely their position in a sentence and the degree of their prominence, are described. Results of experiments with participation of the Russian subjects are presented. Typical mistakes registered in the English sentences with adverbial modifiers of place read by the Russian learners of English are classified. Data on sentences translation with adverbial modifiers of place in final position from English into Russian are provided. Furthermore, this paper analyzes translation difficulties that Russian learners of English experienced while performing the task. The outlook for further research will include other adverbial modifiers in the two languages as well as in other languages.
