This conference brought together practitioners and educators to discuss a number of topics relating to education for health sciences librarianship including graduate, postgraduate, and continuing education activities. This paper briefly traces some of the events in the history of education for health sciences librarianship leading up to the conference and identifies changes that have occurred in the past ten years which have had an impact on educational programs in this area. The focus and objectives of the conference are discussed along with the major recommendations from the conference. Education for health sciences librarianship has been an area of importance to library educators ever since the first formal training was proposed by the University of Minnesota in 1923.
