Optimal Allocation of Capacitor and SVC in Radial Distribution System to Reduce Power Loss and Operational Cost
Reactive power management with distribution automation has proved to be revolutionary measures for distribution network operators (DNOs) and planners to facilitate improvement in technical, commercial and environmental aspects of distribution network (DN) operation in the real time scenario. A comprehensive teaching learning based optimization (CTLBO) algorithm has been employed in this work for reactive power sources allocation for reactive power management in the IEEE 69-bus radial distribution systems (RDS), with 24-hour practical load profiles. This paper demonstrates the simultaneous allocation of the capacitor and static VAr compensator (SVC) to reduce the operational cost of the distribution network. The effectiveness of the proposed work has been established in terms of network loss reduction, voltage profile improvement and cost saving.
