Abstract The online tutorial (tuton) held by the Open University (UT) is one of the pioneers of online learning in Indonesia. In fact, before the Covid-19 pandemic, UT had provided distance learning assistance with various courses. However, tuton's effectiveness seems less intertwined with the problem of academic or intellectual cheating (plagiarism). This paper aims to explore students' understanding of plagiarism, the reasons and factors for a number of students committing plagiarism, to analyze the effectiveness of online learning to avoid plagiarism for students, especially participants in international law courses at UT. This paper is a qualitative research with a case study research design or model, so that the primary sources of research were collected through interviews with students.
