Above NEMA induction motors can be designed and configured for almost any environment and site requirements. It is up to the user to know and understand the requirements thoroughly in order to help motor manufacturers determine the optimal solution for reliability and longevity. Induction motors can be constructed with proper enclosure designs, monitoring equipment and other accessories in excess of the standard features for serial produced NEMA motors. Often times special applications and unique mechanical retrofits can be addressed with engineered nonstandard options. This paper will explore and review common motor constructions and different options available to the users. The context will provide a better understanding to users and equipment packagers of how to specify motor requirements to meet operation expectations and reduce maintenance cost.
