Overview of UX-UI Via Virtual Reality Project in Preserving the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia
Cultural heritage in general consists of inventions and practices of a society that need to be preserved and pass forward to other generations. Some of the heritage produced in a form of cultural property, such as tangible artefacts like buildings or artistic creations. However, other forms of culture can only be audio or visually recorded but cannot be touched or stored physically. It is delivered in a form of song, music, folklore, dance, drama, skills, cuisine, craft and ceremonies which are known as intangible cultural heritage. This research is conceptually highlighting on regaining and preserving the culture of Negeri Sembilan's Minangkabau people via digital mean. It is an initiative to sustain essential heritage elements focusing on profiling the identity of each 12 tribes (Suku) in Negeri Sembilan. Intended to develop a model to digitize the traditional dance moves and rhythm used in its songs (Gurindam) and as well as appreciating its priceless values. This study acquires mix methods to carry out a systematic review of both works of literature about intangible cultural heritage and how it can be digitally preserved with the use of virtual reality. Structured interviews and surveys among professional individuals and bodies related to these fields also planned to accomplish. The objectives of the study are to (1) to develop a comprehensive profile of Minangkabau tribes (suku) in Negeri Sembilan, (2) to investigate the types of the intangible cultural heritage of Negeri Sembilan traditions and (3) to design a novel virtual reality model representing a sense of facial expression, sound processing, and motions' capture. The highlights of this article include: (a) the problem statement and gaps of the literature components, (b) the inclusion criteria in the proposing methods used for the research design and (c) discussions for future works relative to UX and UI.
