Motion Instruction Method Using Head Motion-Associated Virtual Stereo Rearview
Recent years, virtual reality (VR) technologies have been used for teaching motion skills to learners. We have studied a VR assistive system to improve teaching and learning the motion skills by using an inertial sensor-driven head-mount-display (HMD). In this paper, as a preliminary step of the development, we proposed a motion instruction method using "Head motion-Associated virtual stereo rearView (HAV in short)," and conducted a feasibility study on a pose-recognition performance. That is, expert's poses are displayed toward learners with the use of the VR assist system. In the system, the learners watch virtual stereo rear views via HMD, and perceive and reproduce the displayed expert's poses. Here, the virtual stereo camera is assumed to be located at a third person perspective viewpoint (3PP viewpoint) away from the back of the learner's head, and is moved in accordance with the head-rotating motions measured by the HMD-embedded inertial sensors. The proposed system is expected to enhance the subject's visual sensation for pose-recognition. A preliminary experiment result is reported in this paper.
