A Series-Fed Patch Antenna Array for Biomedical Radar Applications
In this paper, a series-fed patch antenna array with substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) power dividing circuit is proposed to work in the 60 to 64 GHz band. It is aimed to support frequency-modulated continuous waveform (FMCW) radar operation for biomedical applications. Due to the required radar mounting scheme, the array antenna is configured with a 30°-tilted beam in the E-plane. The 4-by-5 array adopts a non-uniform patch width configuration so that to control the amount of radiation from individual patches. The proposed antenna yields a broad matching band up to 9 GHz and the peak realized gain is 14.4 dBi, which shall meet the biomedical radar need.
