Imaging of the larynx.

In the past year, most of the new developments in imaging the larynx have concerned MR imaging. Some early results with the use of gadolinium are very promising. The superiority of new imaging techniques (CT and MR imaging) for the evaluation of deep structures of the larynx is now widely accepted and there is now enough background to assess the impact of new imaging methods on treatment. Also, prognostic factors are now emerging in laryngeal cancer. CT and MR imaging appear to be of great interest for evaluating recurrent diseases. Interest in plain film studies still remains especially for emergency situations. In pediatric patients, ultrasound and ultrafast CT of the larynx have been investigated.
