The bidirectional converter consists of two stages one is ac-dc converter and second is dc-dc converter. For ac-dc converter bipolar modulation is used. Two separate controller systems are designed for converters which follow active and reactive power commands from grid. Uniform controller provides reactive power support to the grid. The charger operates in two quadrants I and IV. There are three modes of operation viz. charging only operation, charging-capacitive operation and charging-inductive operation. During operation under these three operating modes vehicle's battery is not affected.
