Simplified simulation method for partial discharge phenomena in GIS
In recent years, partial discharge (PD) measurements in the UHF range have been attracting great attention as an excellent GIS insulation diagnostic method. From the viewpoint of practical application, the arrangement of UHF sensors and their measuring frequency range are very important. Focusing on the TEM mode of PD pulse propagation, the authors investigated damping characteristics for each GIS component. On the basis of the results, they developed a new program for a microcomputer which simulates the damping of PD pulses in GIS. In this program, data on the propagation characteristics of each GIS component are assembled and combined according to the propagation route of PD pulses in the GIS. To verify the accuracy of this program, they carried out an on-site test in an underground GIS substation using the pulse injection method. From the test results, the combined damping effect of GIS components was clarified and some correction rules for this program were established.
