Assessing a Rare Sphenoid Sinus Neuroendocrine Malignancy with ^(18)F-FDG PET/CT
We describe herein a rare case o f malignant neuroendocrine tumor (NET) of the sphenoid sinus without knowing its nature and aggressiveness, which causes a therapeutic dilemma. Positron emission tomography with 2-[^(18)F]fluoro-2-Deoxy-D-glucose integrated with computed tomography (^(18)F-FDG PET/CT) was performed to assist therapeutic planning. A high FDG uptake was noted at the primary site without skull base involvement or distal metastasis. The patient therefore received surgical tumor removal plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy and remained stable 24 months after treatment. ^(18)F-FDG PET might provide a useful clue for managing patients with NET of the sphenoid sinus.
