Full-space finite element models and reduced-space finite element models are common approximations from an analytical standpoint. Modal models and impedance models are also widely used for the description of experimental systems. Several different system-modeling approaches are reviewed and applicable theory presented. Some similarities between the different techniques are discussed. Results from the different techniques are compared to show similarities and differences using a simple model. Usefulness of each of the techniques from an application standpoint is discussed.
