A Case of Circumorificialis Plasmocytosis of Gingiva

Plasmacytosis circumorificialis (PC), a benign inflammatory mucosal disease rarely found around orifices of the body, is histologically characterized by dense plasma cell infiltration. A 56-year-old woman presented with bandlike redness of the anterior mandibular gingiva with superficial pain. Histopathologically, inflammatory cell infiltration including mainly plasma cells was observed. Immunohistochemical staining revealed these cells were positive for immunoglobulin kappa and lambda light chain. Treatment for periodontal disease and topical steroid application worked well to resolve the symptoms. On the basis of the clinical and histopathological findings, we diagnosed PC of the anterior mandibular gingiva.
