Collecting, managing, and analyzing avionics equipage information

A data set is being assembled to describe the nature and extent of avionics equipage on aircraft that operate in the National Airspace System. This data helps inform decision making processes for how best to achieve the goals of NextGen. The MITRE Corporation's Center for Advanced Aviation Systems Development (CAASD) has spent several years developing this resource and refining the information management practices that sustain it. The resulting CAASD Avionics Information Repository for NextGen (CAIRN) is described and representative output products are presented.
