Image Spatial Resolution Importance on Burned Wetlands Monitoring in the Paraná River - Argentina
In Argentina, fires have always been present in the mainland ecosystems of the central-south region. However, the Paraná River wetland system has been going through a critical hydrological situation for a couple of years, which triggers many fire events that challenge the academic community as well as the local governments. Common low spatial resolutions remote sensing products seem to be unsuitable to monitor the processes associated with fire events in wetland environments. Thus, in this work we analyzed the use of vegetation indexes and surface temperature with fine spatial resolution images, such as Sentinel 2 and Landsat, to capture the variability of fire stages in the Paraná River wetlands. Our results suggest that Sentinel 2 and Landsat 8 and 9 are appropriate to monitor heterogeneous burned vegetation and its recovery.
