Alongsideness and the Crucial Cs in Public Health: Using Enquiring Practice to Foster Understanding and Change With Parents and in Communities

Abstract:A public health practitioner describes her response to the punishments of children she saw in U.K. families and the different kinds of relationship approaches required to deal with it. She describes the influence of Adlerian Crucial Cs on her health visiting in families with preschool children and community development projects. In doctoral practitioner research, the Crucial Cs and living theory educational action research inspired "alongsideness" as collaborative enquiring relationships with families and colleagues across her communities of practice. Crucial Cs are essential components of practice values and an educational tool in different domains of practice and for responding to differing depths of need in families.
