The voice applications over IP networks are growing rapidly due to their increasing popularity and cost. To meet the demand of providing high-quality of VoIP at anytime and from anywhere, it is imperative to design suitable QoS model. In this paper we conduct simulation study to evaluate the QoS performance of WiMAX and UMTS for supporting VoIP. We designed simulation modules in OPNET for WiMAX and UMTS, and carried out extensive simulations to evaluate and analyze several important performance metrics such as Mean Opinion Score (MOS), end-to-end delay, jitter and packet delay variation. 下一代无线网络(NGWNs)专注于不同无线接入技术(rat)的融合,为VoIP (Voice over IP)流量和视频流等应用提供良好的服务质量(QoS)。基于IP网络的语音应用由于其日益普及和成本的增加而迅速发展。为了满足随时随地提供高质量VoIP的需求,设计合适的QoS模型势在必行。本文对WiMAX和UMTS支持VoIP的QoS性能进行了仿真研究。我们在OPNET中为WiMAX和UMTS设计了仿真模块,并进行了广泛的仿真来评估和分析几个重要的性能指标,如平均意见评分(MOS)、端到端延迟、抖动和分组延迟变化。仿真结果表明,WiMAX在支持VoIP应用方面的优势明显超过UMTS,是一种比UMTS更好的技术。
