To reduce the encoding complexity of virtual reality 360 video, this study proposed a fast early termination of CU partition and mode selection algorithm in HEVC. The proposed algorithm determines whether to terminate CU early or directly further divide in the CU partition process. On the other hand, the proposed algorithm saves time by reducing the number of candidate modes during the mode selection process.
