The goal of our work is to find a similar method to detect defects in the low voltage distribution system. One possible method is the detection of intermittent arcing, which is a clear sign of ongoing degradation. We should be able to determine where discharges occur in the grid. We present an attempt to apply smart meters to detect the defects, as this would easily allow to alert the system operator. In this study we investigated fault-free and intentionally damaged underground cables.
