Mining Citation Patterns of LIS Scholars: An Analysis with Asian Perspective
The purpose of the study was to investigate the hidden patterns of citation analysis embedded in the information flow of Asian Library & Information Science (LIS) top impact factor journals by using bibliometric and social networking analysis (SNA). Basic research questions were considered to investigate the citation trends of Asian LIS scholars in present research; a) the publications of Asian LIS researchers as individual were received the highest citation potential as revealed by received citation during last twenty years, b) Secondly the publications, which contain Asian LIS scholars are first author and co-authors from rest of the world are received the maximum number of citation, c) thirdly foreigners LIS scholar are first author and co-authors from Asian countries are received the ample number of citations. To evaluate the scientific research publications in terms of citation pattern analysis at Asian and rest of the world level, bibliometric and social network analysis (SNA) have been used through a VOS viewer software using Web of Science (WoS) databases from 1994–2013. Factual data was taken from WoS published by Thomson Reuters. Results revealed that foreigners LIS authors received the ample number of citations followed by Asian scholars, however, senior and experienced Asian LIS scholars have indulged to conduct joint publications and received a high number of citations whereas the first author is belonging from Asian countries and rest of authors are from the USA and Europe. The study portrays the worth of Asian LIS research and elaborates the thoughtfulness of its worth.
