Fuzzy chopper-based load emulator for AUT microgrid
Programmable load emulator is used for implementation and analysis of different electrical load change scenarios in power electronics and microgrid laboratory researches. Load emulators usually use PI controllers to track the reference active and reactive power profiles. PI controller coefficients depend on operating point therefore it is not suitable especially for this application in which the operating point is constantly changing in a wide range. Also in microgrid laboratory researches, because of low inertia, the voltage and frequency variations are considerable which can effect on load emulator operation. In this paper, a fuzzy-based PI controller is presented for a chopper-based load emulator in AUT microgrid for both islanding and grid connected operation modes. Experimental results show the performance of the fuzzy system in comparison to conventional PI controller for load emulator in both operation modes.
