Although widely used, coaching does not have a precise scientific framework, as it is a field in the theoretical construction phase. This article provides a critical review of studies on coaching in order to summarize the theoretical models which support research, to identify the results in this field, and to present the mechanisms for change and efficiency in coaching. The results reported are still insufficient to conclude on the relationship between certain factors and the benefits of coaching.
