Malnutrition In Surgery Patients Within The Framework Of The Eras Protocols
The ERAS- Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocol is the most applied and accepted nutritional approach in patients who have undergone surgery. It’s stated that the surgical healing process accelerates, wound healing increases and the risk of infection decreases in surgical patients who are fed appropriately according to ERAS protocol. It’s known that, it reduces the risk of bacterial translocation and infection, accelerates the wound healing process, increases the muscle strength required for body movements, prevents muscle destruction, shortens the postoperative ileus period, reduces complications, decreases morbidity and mortality rates. In this context, it’s recommended to raise awareness degree of surgical nurses, to prepare trainings about perioperative nutritional support according to ERAS protocol, to support participation in these trainings and to ensure that patients receive nutritional care according to preoperative ERAS nutrition recommendations with a multidisciplinary approach.
