A New Multiparameter Approach to the Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Ceramics
This technical paper describes a new multiparameter approach, consisting of deterministic and mechanistically based characterization of the mechanical properties of structural ceramics; and the appropriate probabilistic models, from which the failure probabilities and the reliabilities of engineering components made with such structural materials can be evaluated, for structural, mechanical and aerospace engineering design applications. For example, the practical application of the methodology developed can be demonstrated by the actual characterization of the mechanical properties of some new structural ceramics which are being developed for high-temperature engineering design applications.
